John Henry Jowett (1863-1923) was one of the most celebrated preachers of his day. He counted as friends and co-workers such giants as Alexander Maclaren, J Stuart Holden, and Samuel Chadwick. Noted for his warmth and genuine evangelical fervour, he was a favorite among all classes of men who would honor Christ and believe in Him with simplicity and sincerity. He pastorates included the famed Carr's Lane Chapel once led by John Angell James and a call called short by illness to Westminster Chapel between G Campbell Morgan and D Martyn Lloyd Jones from 1918 until 1922.
