The Message “Bible” changes verses about homosexual sin

John Lanagan

We now have a generation raised under the “scripture” of The Message, with its omission of homosexuality as a specific sin in 1 Corinthians 6: 9-11, and also the intentionally altered presentation of 1 Timothy 1:9-10. (READ)

But what about 1 Kings 22:46? Eugene Peterson, author of The Message, strikes again. The Message states: “Also, he got rid of the sacred prostitutes left over from the days of his father, Asa.”

Sacred prostitutes? That’s the description?

The NASB states, “The remnant of the sodomites, who remained in the days of his father Asa, he expelled from the land.” (1 Kings 22:46)

According to the KJV, “And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.” (1 Kings 22:46)

This is no small thing that the enemy has accomplished through The Message.

What about 1 Corinthians 6:9-11? Homosexuality is not mentioned, but a sort of earth reverence is inserted. That is correct. Eugene Peterson has added his own “message.”

THE MESSAGE, 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-11—”Don’t you realize that this is not the way to live? Unjust people who don’t care about God will not be joining in his kingdom. Those who use and abuse each other, use and abuse sex, use and abuse the earth and everything in it, don’t qualify as citizens in God’s kingdom. A number of you know from experience what I’m talking about, for not so long ago you were on that list. Since then, you’ve been cleaned up and given a fresh start by Jesus, our Master, our Messiah, and by our God present in us, the Spirit.” (Bold mine)

Use and abuse the earth? You cannot find this in any reputable translation.

Here is the NASB, 1 CORINTHIANS 6:9-11–Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

Do you see how Peterson has removed these specific sins?

But gosh, The Message is just a paraphrase, people say. Sadly, this is not entirely accurate. Should we not acknowledge by now that this paraphrase is used and quoted from as if it were really God’s Word? Well known preachers have used it, and will continue to do so.

There is a dark thing coming, and it uses the lust of homosexuality. I am not eager to point out the role homosexuality will play in the false church for several reasons. Hard words, mine and others, too often give those who hate homosexuals an excuse to do what they want to do anyway–reject, ignore, or condemn those who are caught in the lust of this sin.

But we have gone so far the other way–due to the television in our living rooms, the loud and effective pro-homosexual lobby, and the spirit of lust devouring our culture (Romans 1), we are now pretty comfortable with homosexuality. For many Christians, it is…ho-hum, not a big deal.

Homosexuals are perishing. The real Bible is rejected and, as we have seen in The Message, replaced with lies. The Message is simply the forerunner to a Christ-less “Bible” that will be used in a Christ-less false church. A “christ” will be worshiped, but not the One you know.

You do know Him, right?

Paul wrote, “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.” (1 Corinthians 15:1-8) (Bold mine)

Jesus Christ Himself showed the importance of the Scriptures (Matthew 4). So did Paul, and so do many of us. When they are “changed,” it is against the will of the Lord.

Broken record that I am, I will continue to write about the arrival of homo-fascism and homo-spirituality. There will come a time when such warning is not allowed. I hope I am not here for that. I hope that Christians will wake up. We are being poisoned because of willful ignorance of the Word.

I pray the Lord will save those suffering the lust of homosexuality. It is a sin. The Bible says it is a sin. And so we start from there. While we still can.
