Is it okay to judge others?

Some Christians have a position of authority in which they make judgments such as judges and rulers. They must be very careful to make righteous judgments. Yet all Christians make judgments throughout their lives. Judging others is inevitable, but how we do it is what matters.

We judge others and decide if we want to be their friend or not. We judge churches and preachers to determine if we want to become a member of a church. We judge potential spouses. We turn some down but eventually most choose a mate.

"Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" (John 7.24).

We are to make judgments with righteous judgment) and we must be very careful in the way we judge others. For in the way we judge others we will be judged:

"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you" (Matthew 7.1-2).
